Pondering - Luke 2:19
I have been thinking about this verse a lot lately. In fact, I can't seem to get it off my mind.
Luke 2:19
"But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart."
This year our Christmas was a little different. We did our usual planning and preparing, but no matter how much you plan and prepare you can't always control the circumstances. We had sickness hit one of our little ones and it kind of threw a wrench into our plans. It was still a great Christmas after all, and actually quite memorable.
As I think of Mary, I see a young Mom who probably wanted everything to be perfect for her baby's birth. Why this was God's son, He deserved the best. But then circumstances happened, the census.
Luke 2:1
"In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world."
"What! Now? No, I'm expecting. How can this be?" But here Mary was about to give birth to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, away from home, no place to stay, no warm bed, just an old stable. But somehow in God's divine plan it was perfect. The angels declaring his birth to the shepherds, the word spreading and people being amazed, was all part of God's amazing plan.
As we begin to prepare to step into 2020 I realize that sometime I visualize myself standing on the edge of a pool dipping my big toe in to test the water. Am I sure I am ready to jump in? No, not really. Am I ready for what 2020 will bring? No, maybe not but this one thing I know....
This same God who somehow prepared Mary and walked with her through the birth of her precious Child, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords will also walk with us through 2020. We can jump in with the assurance that even though things may not go exactly as we plan, God will be with us.
We can rest assured of Romans 8:28
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
Are you ready? Who's ready to jump in? 2020 here we come!
