Under His Wings

Yesterday I had such a great time sharing scripture and introducing Bible Journaling to a group of ladies at a friend's home.

We studied Psalm 91 and journaled vs. 4,
"He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection."

I told the true story of a ranger who was walking through a burned area of forest in Yellowstone National Park. He came across an unusual site. He found a bird literally petrified in ashes, sitting statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Surprised by the eerie sight, he knocked the bird over with a stick. When the bird fell over, three little chick's scurried from under their mother's wings.

The loving mother, aware and sensing the  danger and disaster, had carried her small chick's to the base of the tree and had gathered them safely under her wings. She could have flown to safety but instead refused to abandon her young.

When I read this story, as sad as it is, all I could think about was Jesus hanging on a cross. Jesus didn't have to do this, but He chose to die on that cross for you and me. He did it out of His great love for us. We don't deserve this sacrifice that  He made, but we will be forever grateful.

As we journaled pages with birds and feathers in creative ways, we were able to express how thankful we are for all Jesus did and continues to do in our lives.

(Thank you Sandy Lawley for inviting us to your home to Bible Journal together and thank you Shannon Pendergraff for coming with me and being such a great help)
